My class on color explain more about palettes

Hi, I write this in a school break time (summer in north hemisphere and winter in south hemisphere)
So you might have missed a game, but if you read this not in a break, always a good game is welcomed!
The game would be on a color wheel  but wait! that color wheel that we see everywhere was an idea by Sir Isaac Newton in Isaac Newton in 1666  [lesson 5 of my color class]

To play the game we go to this websitecolor.method.ac
If you need you can use its tools to calibrate monitor or turn on color blind assist.
The the game start

Then the stages of game start ,stages are “

  • Hue,
  • Saturation,
  • Complementary,
  • Analogous,
  • Triadic and
  • Tetradic

(The names seems confusing! I will explain them all just be with me)

The challenge is that you move your mouse or finger to where that you make the colors as close as the the defined color.

It is interactive and you can easily move but the point is that you should do it in a limited time.
After that if gives you result: such as

  • poor,
  • average,
  • good,
  • very good,
  • perfect

I found this game a very good interactive and fun casual game to practice color wheel concepts such as hue and saturation.

Now let me explain you about the name

Hue is about the name of color it self like red, magenta, blue, …

Comment below this topicwe know rainbows is a continues spectrum but if we want to paint it for children how many hues we would draw for them?

Saturation is about how is the intensity of that color, how pure is that color, for example do you find it as an intense red?

And if you ask me what about how much a color is dark or bright or is close to white or black, I have explained it in real colors in lesson 4 of my color class

Then the game asks you to do a complementary color challenge.
Complementary color palette is about when you choose colors on two exact opposite side of a color wheel.  As I explained in lesson 5 of my color class it can affect our feelings and has psychology behind it, for example it can be used in visually telling a romantic scene.

Next level of the game would be challenging you in making analogous color palettes

Analogous color palettes consists of 3 hue of colors but on a color wheel they are side by side. So, can you guess what emotional affects it can form? Can you recall a film scene that this type of palette is used? You can learn more about it in lesson 8 of my color class

The game  then invites you to make triadic palette. Triadic means three, the same as analogous it has 3 colors but not close together can you guess how they are placed on a color wheel?
Yes, diverse. Can you feel how vibrant would be the feeling of a triadic palette? In what designs or stories would you like to use them?  lesson 6 of my color class teach you ideas about them.

And if we choose 4 colors in on a color wheel we call it tetradic palette or a hint for you we also call it double complementary as if we choose two set of complementary colors.
Last level of the game is about Tetradic palette.
Lesson 7 of my color class is completely about double complementary (tetradic) palette.

The game finish here.
But if you are interested to know if there are any other palettes or not, I should say “yes”

We have split complementary palette, which has three colors, imagine you have 3 colors in a analogous palette then you pick the middle one and bring it to the opposite side.
The place is not important, always think about and analyze the feeling and effect of the palette in your mind, so you use them in a best way in your designs or storytelling.  Lesson 9 of my color class  discuss it.

In Lesson 3 of my color class I teach a fast forward trick in both Adobe Photoshop and in Gimp. The trick is about applying a color palette of an image for example a shot of movie, to your own image or photo.
